Eber (עֵבֶר in Hebrew, sometimes called Heber) was a Prophet and descendant of the Israelites.

History Edit

Eber was the great-grandson of Shem, the son of Noah. He was the father of Peleg. He died at the age of 464.

According to tradition, Eber lived in Babel, but refused to help in the building of the Tower of Babel, or continued to build it for the glorification of God and not himself, and so his language was left untouched by God, and his language either was or later evolved into Hebrew.

Etymology Edit

Eber means "to pass over" in Hebrew.
